Mission Statement
flyagogo.net provides the aviation community with the most
easy-to-use, interactive and graphical online flight planning tools,
aeronautical charts, live weather, and aviation database available
anywhere on the web. No registration, no proprietary plugins required,
works with any modern web-browser on any platform.
Charts & Weather
Navigate to any place on any of the United States sectional
charts. Simply click on the map and hold down the mouse button while
dragging to a new location. Use the plus and minus buttons to
zoom the map in or out. The buttons on the right switch between
the sectional chart display, terminal area charts, the current visible
and infrared satellite images, the current nexrad radar returns, and a
photo view provided by google.
Aviation Database
You are looking for a special airport, airspace fix, navaid, or tail
number? Simply type the identifier into the search box and press
fly me to... to display additional detailed information on
what you are looking for. Do you see anything interesting on the map?
Double click on it to center it on the map and get more information
about it.
Online Flight Planning
Plan your next cross country flight online: Type the waypoints
separated by hyphens and click on
fly me to..., for example:
KPAO-KMOD-KTCY. This will tabulate the flight plan for you, draw a
line on the chart, and display an elevation profile along the flight
path.
Read more about each feature by clicking on the sections to the left.
Live Satellite Weather Maps
The satellite weather maps on www.flyagogo.net are specialized maps
produced exclusively for the needs of the aviation community.
Some properties unique to these maps are:
The maps are interactively browsable and zoomable.
Colorful and contrast enhanced display of cloud cover over a high
resolution map, showing land masses, bodies of water, rivers,
state boundaries, and airports. Large airports (more than a
single runway) are shown with their airport identifier.
Seamless switching between sectionals, visible satellite,
infrared satellite, and radar views.
The data are derived from geostationary GOES satellite images at the highest
available resolution.
Clouds can be displayed in the visible and infrared bands.
In an infrared image cold clouds are high clouds, so the bright
white colors typically highlight the colder regions.
Images are automatically updated whenever new data becomes
available. The UTC time of the last image is clearly displayed on
the bottom of the image. Press the reload button of your browser to
get the latest image.
Current flight rules are displayed color coded for each airport:
green for VFR, red
for IFR, and orange for MVFR. An airport
displayed in black means that no current METAR was available for
that airport.
Live Radar Returns
The radar maps on flyagogo.net are specialized composite radar maps,
generated from dozens of radar stations across the United
States. The data is updated frequently - the time at which the last
composite radar image was generated (composite time) is
clearly displayed on the bottom of the image. Areas which
do not have current radar coverage - for example because a
station is out of service - appear shaded. Each radar
station is indicated by a small colored circle with the
following color code:
| green | data is uptodate within 30 min of the composite time |
| yellow | data is older than 30 min from the composite time |
| red | radar station did not return any valid data within
one hour of the composite time. The data from this radar station is
not included in the composite image. |
| white | radar station is under maintenance/out-of-service

Satellite Photos
Click on the "photo" button to see a bird view photo of the airport
that is currently in the center of the map. The pictures are provided
by google maps. Sometimes the photos need some time to load - so be
patient! The easiest way to find an airport is to search for it
typing its identifier in the search box and clicking "fly me
to...". That will automatically center the airport precisely. Or
simply double click on an airport on the sectional chart to center it
and then switch to the photo view. It is fun to virtually fly over
airports or even identify navaid antennas on the photos (note that the
resolution of the photos in rural areas is sometimes not enough to
identify the small antennas).

Aviation Database
You can search for airports, navaids, airspace fixes, and
tail numbers by typing the identifier (or part of the item's name) into
the text box and clicking on "fly me to...". The map will zoom to the
appropriate location and additional information on that item is
displayed next to it. If there are several items that match the search
expression you will be given an opportunity to select one of
these. Advanced users can also specify what kind of item is being
searched for. Here are a few examples:
| search expression | will find
|
| Palo Alto | Palo Alto Airport of Santa Clara County
|
| KSQL | San Carlos Airport
|
| SFO | San Francisco airport and San Francisco navaid
|
| apt:SFO | San Francisco airport
|
| nav:SFO | San Francisco navaid
|
| fix:SUNOL | SUNOL airspace fix
|
| 37.5136,-122.5008 | Halfmoon Bay airport
|
| N65610 | registration information for N65610

Flight Planning
Plan your next cross country flight online: Type the waypoints
separated by hyphens and click on fly me to..., for example:
KPAO-KTCY
This will tabulate the flight plan for you, draw a line on the chart,
and display an elevation profile along the flight path.
The flight planner accepts three types of waypoints:
- airports - use the 4 letter airport identifier usually starting with the letter K
- navaids - use the 3 letter navaid id
- airspace fixes - use the 5 letter identifier
The lines drawn between waypoints are in fact not straight - they are
geodetic lines on the surface of the earth and represent the shortest
connection between two points. The leg times, distances, headings, and fuel
consumption and the totals will be tabulated automatically. A top of
climb waypoint (TOC) and top of descent point (TOD) will be determined
and inserted into the flight plan. If you obtain a free flyagogo.net
account
you can manage several customizable aircraft profiles (with climb,
cruise, descent air speed, climb and descent rate, and fuel usage) and
you can save your favorite flight plans for later use.
Flying Destinations
flyagogo.net provides the aviation community with a simple, open,
yet powerful platform to share interesting flying destinations,
events, and stories. Pilots can post anything from
- sightseeing destinations and attractions,
- descriptions of an airport and its surroundings and infrastructure,
- restaurant tips,
- flying stories,
- experiences with an FBO,
- announcements of airport days, fly-ins, or other events,
- an exciting aviation story,
- pretty much anything else that is of interest to pilots.
Only the sky is the limit. The project depends on
the active participation of the aviation community!
Share your favorit destination with thousands of pilots
across northern America:
http://www.flyagogo.net/destinations
Submitted destinations will be associated to an airport. Visitors of
the flyagogo.net website will see the posting whenever they search for
information about that airport, or planning a flight to it. Visitors
can also search for destinations within a certain radius around an
airport, or by specifying keywords, or by browsing a list of recently
added destinations. You can be sure that your posting will be seen!
Charts API

Troubleshooting
If you have trouble viewing the flyagogo.net website there are several
things you can try to solve the problem:
- Make sure that JavaScript is enabled in your browser: enable JavaScript. Since flyagogo.net
is a very dynamic website javascript is needed for pretty much
everything.
- Sometimes the contents of the browser cache are incoherent or
invalid. It happens rarely. If it does clearing your browser's cache
will resolve the problem: clearing the
cache.
- If the general performance is slow and the maps are not moving as
smoothly as they should simply restarting your browser will often
improve the performance. Also make sure that you are using the latest
version of your browser.
- The personalized homepage feature will only work if you allow a
cookie to be set by your browser. The cookie is not used for tracking
visitors and it does not store any information on your computer other
than your e-mail address and a hash value needed for the automatic
authentication feature ("remember me on this computer").
If you are still having problems with the website please let us
know and send an e-mail to info@flyagogo.net. Include the
operating system and browser that you are using with their version
numbers. The flyagogo.net website has been tested with the most recent
versions of the following web-browsers: Internet Explorer, Safari,
Firefox, Mozilla, Netscape, and Opera.
